Job Summary

The Financial Aid Advisor (Loan Coordinator) position specializes in the coordination and processing of all federal, state, and private student loan programs with an annual volume of approximately $37 million. In addition, this position will serve as financial aid advisor for one-fifth of student applicants and their families which encompasses all types of aid programs available, HOPE eligibility, and academic progress requirements. Additional responsibilities include financial aid presentations to various student and parent groups regarding the financial aid application process and program overviews at on-campus and off-campus workshops. This position will have the responsibility in adhering to the current default prevention plan as well as working directly with management to periodically evaluate and implement new initiatives.

Responsibilities

Advising - 40
Counsel prospective and returning students and parents in the areas of federal, state and institutional aid programs and the regulations governing them. This position serves as an advisor for approximately 20% of the aid applicants. Through various means, which includes in-person, phone and email, the position will communicate with students, and families, regarding eligibility and options for financing their education.

Coordinating - 50
Coordinate all student loan programs. This position is responsible for coordinating and processing federal, state, and private loan programs for students and parents. This includes processing applications, transmitting data to outside entities, as well as troubleshooting errors.

Assessment - 5
This position is responsible for all Default Prevention initiatives which includes analyzing data, assessing existing plan, presenting recommendations, and implementing approved updates.

Liaison and Other Assigned Duties - 5
This position represents the Georgia College Financial Aid Office at various student/parents speaking events: such as freshman seminar classes, on-campus visitation programs and off-campus workshops. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

ABILITIES
Ability to perform basic accounting procedures.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with a variety of people: students, parents, faculty, staff and off-campus stakeholders.

Ability to process computer data and to format and generate reports.

Ability to complete moderately complex and specialized administrative processes and paperwork.

Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments.

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of financial aid policies, procedures, and eligibility requirements.

Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.

SKILLS
Database management skills.

Records maintenance skills.
